Imagine being a station manager responsible for an intense flow of thousands of rugby fans - possibly in a state of great excitement - as they crowd from the station entrance intent on filling 3 platforms of limited capacity. This is station crowd management pushed to the limit, so having a reliable CCTV network giving maximum visibility of passengers, being able to communicate directly over the PA while also being able to co-ordinate with Police and Ambulance services is paramount. 20,000 passengers an hour will be relying on TDM’s systems for their safety and security as they arrive for one of the biggest sporting events in the world; the Rugby World Cup. Twickenham Station in West London has limited capacity but an upgrade has been ongoing over the last few months to greatly improve passenger flow and passenger safety. Our Customer Information Displays will guide passengers through the station to the correct platforms, ensuring that they have a safe journey to and from the event. The displays are also under the control of the station manager and written messages can be shown instantly to tie in with PA announcements as a direct reaction to changing situations. Our upgrades have been carried out under Network Rail’s improvement programme, as Twickenham prepares to welcome over 720,000 visitors in September. Sometimes there’s nothing better than a member of staff on the ground to respond to unfolding situations. Trans Data Management has now installed the Radio Public Address Microphone system across 17 major stations managed by Virgin Trains, including Birmingham International, Carlisle and Crewe. Trans Data Management provided station staff with hand-held microphones, designed specifically for railway platform announcements. Staff at Virgin train stations are now able to remotely call to the Public Announcement systems on other platforms within the station. This ensures that platform alterations, station announcements during disruptive periods and safety procedures are quickly and efficiently relayed to the public via the hand-held device. Staff on the ground are able to keep the station control room operator informed about passenger movements especially during times of high passenger volume and react immediately to changing situations by making station wide announcements from any part of the station complex.
